Edward Sinclair OLY

Director or Swimming, Head Coach & Founder 

Qualifications & Certificates: Double Olympian, ASA Levels 1 & 2 Swimming Teaching; ASA Club Coaches Level 3; ASA Team Manager; Diploma In Personal Training Level 3; B.W.L.A Award Weight Lifting; Thump Boxing For Fitness Level 1 & 2 Instructor; National Rescue Award NPLQ Lifeguard; BSCA Member; Institute Of Swimming Member; Safety First Aid Qualified II.; National Child Protection Award; National Pool Plant Operators Certificate (CIMSPA)  

Ed represented Great Britain at two Olympic Games, Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004. In Sydney Ed swam as part of the 4 x 200m freestyle team which finished 5th and broke the British record. His highest world ranking was 7th in the 200 freestyle in 1999. Ed also competed at six European Championships winning five medals and competed at three World Championships winning three medals. He broke the British record several times during his swimming career, as an individual in the 200m Freestyle event and as part of the 4 x 200m Freestyle relay teams (LC as well as SC). Ed also held European Relays records. The most recent record came in the Masters swimming at the 2016 European Masters Championships held in London where Ed was part of the Teddington SC medley relay that broke the British record for 120-159 year olds.

After retiring (in 2005) from professional swimming Ed began his coaching career at Millfield School, where he also headed the Strength & Conditioning Programme. From 2009 to 2018, Ed served as the Head Coach and Director of Swimming at Teddington Swimming Club. Currently he runs Maximum Performances, works as the Lead Swimming Coach at Guildford High School and as a consultant for club and school swimming programmes.

During his wide-reaching coaching career Ed used to be also involved in The England National Talent Programme as part of the coaching team and in the government-funded AASE programme. He also held a position of a Swimming Coach Mentor for ASA coaches working towards their Level 3 Coaching Certificates.

Edward has been coaching for over 16 years and worked with all levels of club swimmers, triathletes, masters and open water swimmers from development up to international level. He is always excited to watch his swimmers fulfilling their potential and achieving their goals, such as: current world champion James GuyJakob Goodman (currently also part of our MP coaching team), James Disney-May (Olympian 2012), Joel Night (Youth Olympic Champion 2013) and from triathletes: Vanessa Raw (GB International), Chris Carter (GB International), Eliza Cottington (International Junior), Emma Pallant (GB International), Pavan Rooprai (GB International), Stuart Hayes (Olympian 2012) and Michelle Dillon (Olympian 2004). 

In 2022 Edward was Head Swimming Coach on the ITV show The Games, where 12 celebrities took part in Olympic sports.  You can still watch the second episode featuring swimming on the ITV Hub - here.

Many years of competitive swimming at the highest level combined with rich experience in coaching swimmers and triathletes at all levels equipped Edward with the ability to adapt to the athlete’s needs and deliver highly focused swimming coaching and swimming specific land training programmes. 

Matt Kidd OLY

Co-Founder

Qualifications: Double Olympian, BSc Sports Science; BA Economics, MBA 

Matt represented Great Britain at the Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004 Olympic Games. Swimming the Freestyle leg in the 4x100 Medley relay they finished 8th in Athens. 

Matt won a Silver medal at the Manchester Commonwealth Games in 2002 as part of the 4x100 Medley relay team, which also broke the British Record. Matt also won medals at the European Short Course Championships, World Championships and World University Games breaking the British records on the way. 

In 2001 at the World University Games, Matt became the first British swimmer to break the magical 50 second barrier for 100 meters Freestyle (Long Course). He finished 4th individually in the 100 meters Freestyle and then less than an hour later led off the 4x100 Freestyle relay and broke his own British Record as well as helping the Team to win Gold.

Matt studied and trained at Auburn University where they won the prestigious NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) Championships in 2003.

Marianna Makarova Sinclair

Director

Qualifications: Master of Law, currently studying PhD in Law, Paediatric Infant & Child First Aid Level 3, Risk Assessment and Health & Safety Training, Child Protection Certificate, Swim School Health & Safety Award by RLSS UK

Marianna has more than 17 years' experience in education. As a Founder & Director of an educational consultancy she was running foreign-language and university-foundation courses.

As a Centre and Pastoral manager at Millfield School,  Marianna was responsible for operations of holiday courses and looked after the welfare of more than 900 students from over 50 countries. 

She gained further experience as a Project Manager for a study centre, guardianship organisation and a nursery in London.

Marianna has been involved with Maximum Performances since 2009. As the Director she is currently overseeing the business and legal affairs, smooth running of Maximum Performances operations.

Viera Makarova

Pastoral & Bookings Coordinator

Qualifications: Masters in German and English Studies - University of Leipzig, Germany, Risk Assessment and Health & Safety Training, Child Protection & First Aid Certificates

Viera has a wealth of experience having worked in education since 1981. Over the years she was mostly involved with teaching German, worked as a Lecturer of Business German at universities and also held senior positions such as the Head Of German Department at the Comenius University in Slovakia.

From 2007 to 2014, during the summer time, Viera served as the Residential Co-ordinator at Millfield School in UK. She looked after the welfare of international students studying English at the Millfield English Language Holiday Courses.

Viera has been involved with Maximum Performances since 2010. As the Pastoral & Bookings Co-ordinator she is providing administrative support to parents throughout the application process as well as pastoral support to parents and swimmers during the courses. Viera can be contacted with regards to any bookings or health & welfare concerns.
